Me and Mollie

About your teachers!

Hi! We are your kindergarten teachers at Oakbrook Elementary.  We hope to learn a lot about you and your family this year, but first you should know a few things about us!

Ms. Unser:

I have been teaching kindergarten at Oakbrook for 6 years.  I received my undergraduate degree at the College of Charleston with a major in Art History and received my Masters their as well in Arts and Teaching in Early Childhood.  I am 33 years old and live in the Charleston area.  I have parents who live in the area, and a sister who lives in Arkansas with her husband and 2 daughters.  I also have a Springer Spaniel, Mollie, and 2 hamsters that I talk about all the time.  During my free time I enjoy reading and painting and spending time with family and friends, and as always try to find more fun things to do for my kindergarten class!

Mrs. Myers:

I have been at Oakbrook Elementary for 7 years as a kindergarten assistant, literacy assistant, and an office secretary.  I went to Northwestern Michigan College and received an Associate’s Degree there.  I have been married to John for 17 years and have 1 son, Kyle, who is in 5th grade here at Oakbrook.  During my free time I enjoy reading and spending time with friends and family.

About KG!

Mrs. Myers and I have a lot of fun with our kindergartners, but most importantly we love teaching them to learn many things.  The best thing about kindergarten is to see the growth of a kindergartner from August to May—it is amazing!

In our classroom, we base our behavior on F.R.O.G. rules that are found in your child’s F.R.O.G. book.  When your child follows all the rules they get 4 colored frogs on their behavior sheet!  These are aligned with the school’s PAWS.  Throughout the day we encourage daily positive behavior with many rewards—treasure chest, silly sunshine, stickers, etc.  We also give out happy sticks for the quiet and hardest working table and Frog of the day!
