Good things: CKH opener and purpose Mrs. Flood attended her 50th high school reunion and connected with friends. Mrs. Taylor shared her flexible at work to be able to support her family

Members asked to think of ideas.

• Mrs. Flood suggested we post all the dates of the food distribution program. Prep at 9am and distribution at 10am

   1. Fundraising for a new AED

      Ideas: Chick-fil-A, Lowes grocery, Culvers Night, Grants from Boeing, Look into educational grants.

   4. Mrs. Judge will ask her husband (Firefighter) about possible grants

6. Celebrating attendance to reduce the amount of tardies through the year

   • Mrs. Flood shared that she will ask some friends from her previous school district what strategies they used to keep their attendance and tardies low.
   • Mrs. Lawson asked the group to keep an eye out for “kid friendly” alarm clocks to purchase.
   • Clubs on half days as an incentive for ERD Attendance
   • How can we encourage parents to come to school earlier?

1. Welcome and Introductions (Good Things)

   Attendees: Kim Flood, Nancy Evans, Berylon Taylor, Shantae Gilliard, Kim Boutin

   Good things: Mr. Cook has volunteered his time to help out with tardies in the morning. The Evans are going to a wedding on Pawleys Island. Mrs. Boutin’s neighborhood went all out for Halloween.

2. Social Contract: Get Signatures
3. Angel Tree - We have 110 tags this year. Mrs. Lawson is asking if SIC can support - Mrs. Flood and Mrs. Taylor has agreed to take a few tags this year. (9 tags were taken care of).
4. Low Country Cares - 2nd Saturday of the month. Eagle Nest will also have Low Country Cares once a month. Gilliard will check in to find out when Eagle Nest is doing theirs.
5. Member Questions/Concerns
   1. Pet Food Drive for Carolina vs Clemson this week
   2. Next week: Tragedy in Jamaica: SIC Sponsors OES Loves Jamaica canned food drive (we have a staff member who has family in Jamaica.) Ideas: Cleaning supplies, household goods, sheets, pillows (Blanket Drive) Nonperishable items: easy for shipping Ready to eat items
   3. CKH survey will be open in December. Members are asked to bring their phones to take the survey.
   4. School report card: Average we went up 1 point!
   5. School environment is one of our higher rating areas.
   6. The Amazing Shake-Circle Of Doom: 7:30-9:00am interviews
   7. How do we get to the center of the tardies? We meet with parents to put a policy in place. We work with families. Suggest for students to take the bus. Easy to use alarm clocks. Can neighbors do something to help walkers get to school on time. Walk to School- Neighborhood Edition?
   8. Veteran’s Day Breakfast 6:50-7:30 and The Ceremony begins at 8am. Next year-offer flags for sponsorship.
   9. Spelling Bee: Mrs. Flood will volunteer as a judge for our schoolwide spelling bee.

School Improvement Council (SIC) Meeting Minutes

Date: February 6, 2026 (Rescheduled)
Theme: “Built to Learn… Built to Lead”

Leadership Present:

1. Good Things

• New Playground Equipment: A wish list is due by this Wednesday. Equipment is expected to be installed and ready by the summer.

2. Parent Climate Survey

• The annual district climate survey has not been released yet.
• Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH) Survey: Results were positive. The school had higher participation this year.
• School Report Card: The current score is 7.8 out of 10. Both the CKH and official report card data (including teacher and student surveys) will be reviewed at the next meeting.

3. Spann Elementary Closing & District Growth

• New Construction: A new school is planned for "The Ponds" area to address Summerville's growth, though completion is 3 years away.
• Redistricting: Spann Elementary is being repurposed for district programs.
  • Spann students will transition to Summerville Elementary and Sires Elementary.
  • Approximately 85 students from Sires will be rezoned to Oakbrook Elementary (OES).
  • OES will receive additional teacher allocations from Spann for the next school year.

4. Construction Update

• The new Kindergarten building is progressing and slated for completion by May.
• Features: 4 Kindergarten classrooms, 5 First Grade classrooms, tiled floors, and an awning connecting it to the main building.
• Playground: Plans include sensory playground equipment.

5. School Data (Winter MAP)

• Kindergarten & 1st Grade: Showing strong growth (indicated in "the green").
• 3rd Grade: Currently showing low achievement scores.
• ELA: Demonstrating high growth and high achievement overall, credited to the new curriculum.

6. Upcoming Events

Boosterthon Color Run (Tentative Schedule)

*Volunteers are most needed between 11:30 AM and 1:20 PM. An alternate plan is being developed in case of rain (currently 45% chance).

• 3rd Grade Showcase (R2S): Discussion held regarding the retention process.
• Storm the Citadel: The "Bearbots" will participate in the competition (9:00–11:00 AM). Future goals include the Trebuchet contest.

7. Questions, Concerns, & Announcements

• Facilities: Discussion on improving stage lighting and monitoring sound equipment on the new playground.
• Operations: Morning arrival flow has improved with extra staff support.
• Staff Development: Mrs. Boutin and two teachers will attend a Math Conference (Feb 11–13). Planning days are scheduled to support induction and new-to-OES teachers.
• Community: Low Country Cares needs volunteers on February 14th.
